GoWest is a text-based trail survival game for Root communities — lead a party of four and two oxen west along the Oregon, California, Santa Fe, or Mormon Pioneer trail, managing food, water, health and whatever the trail throws at you.

Common Questions
How do I start a game?
Start a game with start <trail> — for example start oregon — optionally
followed by a difficulty: easy, normal, or hard. Normal is the default.
Which trail should I pick first?
Any of the four works, but the trails differ in length, terrain and how much
water you’ll find along the way. If it’s your first journey, easy difficulty
gives you more starting water, money and a larger water barrel capacity.
Why does my party keep running out of water?
Water is the tightest resource in the game. Your party drinks every day you take
an action, and not every region has a water source — deserts and high desert have
none. Use water to spend a day refilling where a source exists, and buy extra
water barrels at forts and trading posts to carry a bigger buffer across dry
stretches.
Can I play with other people? GoWest is a single-player journey — each player has their own game and channel. The one place your games meet is on the trail itself: a wagon abandoned by another player can be found and salvaged.
Can I have more than one game going? No — starting a new journey replaces your current one.
