These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of GoWest, a text-based trail survival game that runs inside the Root platform. By playing GoWest, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
GoWest operates within a Root community. Your use of the Root platform itself is also governed by Root’s own terms and policies.
Using GoWest
GoWest lets you lead a party west along one of four historic trails, managing supplies, health, weather and hazards along the way. You agree to use the app only for its intended purpose and in compliance with these Terms, your community’s rules, and applicable law.
You are responsible for the content you enter into the game — including the names you give your party members — and for making sure it is appropriate for your community.
Acceptable Use
When playing GoWest, you agree not to:
- Enter unlawful, harmful, harassing, or infringing content, including in party member names
- Attempt to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to the app, the Root platform, or other players’ games
- Automate or manipulate play in a way that interferes with other members’ use
Community administrators may manage or remove game channels and content as part of running the community.
A Note on History
GoWest is a work of fiction inspired by 19th-century westward migration. Its events, hazards and outcomes are dramatized for play and are not intended as an accurate or complete account of that history or of the people affected by it.
Content and Data
Your game is private to you, with one deliberate exception: a wagon you abandon on the trail may be found and salvaged by other players, along with the player name attached to it. How your information is handled is described in the Privacy Policy.
You retain ownership of the content you create. By entering it in GoWest, you grant the app permission to store and display it as needed to run the game.
Availability and Changes
GoWest is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may add, change, or remove features and game mechanics, and the app may be unavailable at times due to maintenance, updates, or issues with the underlying platform. Game balance may change between versions, and games in progress may be affected. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that a game in progress will always be recoverable.
Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, GoWest and its developer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, or for lost game progress.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
